Set up alerts
Get an email, a Slack message or a Discord ping when traffic moves, a goal fires, money arrives, or tracking goes quiet.
Nobody watches a dashboard all day. Alerts do it for you and tell you only when something changed. The one everybody should set up first is tracking lost: it is how you find out that a deploy dropped the script, instead of finding out from a flat chart a fortnight later.
What you can be alerted about
| Alert | Fires when |
|---|---|
| Traffic spike | Visitors jump above the recent baseline by a percentage you set, measured over 1 hour or 24 hours. |
| Traffic drop | Visitors fall below that baseline by a percentage you set, over the same windows. |
| Conversion drop | Conversion rate falls below its recent baseline. |
| Goal | A visitor completes a goal you name. |
| Revenue | A payment arrives, optionally only above a minimum amount. |
| Tracking lost | No events arrive for half an hour when traffic was expected. |
Where the alert goes
Every alert needs at least one delivery channel, and can mix them freely:
- Email, to up to 10 addresses.
- Slack or Discord, through an incoming webhook URL you create in that workspace or server and paste into Statsy.
- A webhook of your own, signed so your endpoint can verify it came from Statsy. Statsy generates a signing secret if you do not supply one.
Tip. Send a test before you rely on it. Every alert has a Send test button that skips the throttle, and the list shows when each alert last fired, so you can tell a quiet alert from a broken one.
Why you will not be flooded
Each alert kind fires at most once per hour per site. A traffic spike that lasts all afternoon is one message, not a hundred. Percentage alerts also need a baseline worth comparing against — at least 20 visitors, or 5 conversions — so a quiet site will not page you because a second visitor arrived.
If you would rather have a routine
Alerts are for surprises. For the regular read, set up a weekly or monthly email report instead: it compares the completed period with the one before and lands in your inbox without anyone opening the app.
Full options for every alert kind are in Alerts.
